Tidbits: the new 5d Mark II
I always find it interesting that there are certain things about software and camera equipment that we are just supposed to know. How the heck are we supposed to know these things if no one tells us??
I just upgraded to the 5d mark II, and unlike my normal self, I’m actually reading the manual and practicing with it before I jump into a shoot. First of all, I just upgraded to Photoshop CS4. I’m pretty sure you have to have CS4 if you are shooting with the new Mark II(but don’t quote me on it). I’ve been having trouble seeing my camera raw(cr2)files in Bridge. I read that you could convert those raw files into DNG’s, and bridge would see it, but that’s just annoying, and it adds a whole new step to my workflow!!
Anyway, I found the info on Adobe’s site today that told me exactly what to do. If you’re having this trouble, click on the link below and it will walk you through it.
Basically, you have to download a file from adobe and copy and paste it into a specific place in your program files.
Hope this helps at least one person out there!!

Kelly, you are correct you must have CS4 to see your raw files with the Mark II. You must also have the upgrade. The instructions are listed for both Mac and Windows on the website you listed. Mandi
I’m entirely jealous of the Mark II. I considered going for that for some video work(the footage you can get off of that is beautiful!) instead of getting my “Redrock Micro” 35mm adapter for my HVX200 but I decided to get the Redrock and let that tide me over until the Red Scarlet comes out. Either way – great choice on the camera!
Wow, thanks. I had no idea. I am waiting for my Mark II to arrive & immediately have 4 shoots lined up this weekend. You saved me some panic time, I’m sure.
I’m with you! I didn’t even think there would be an issue seeing the raw files! And I only have CS3 but I was able to download a DNG converter until I have the money to upgrade to CS4. Grrr.
AHH! Thank you!!! I upgraded to CS4 a few weeks ago and I have been freaking out about not being able to edit once I get the new 5D gets here in bridge…whew! That took a load off!
hey kelly
I did find tht once lightroom updated I was able to import, see, and edit my pictures there. (this is for PC and Mac) But that is only for lightroom users. My only downside is I use to be able to see the thumbnail of the raw image in my original folders and I can’t do that anymore. merry christmas!!
I updated to CS4 also. When I downloaded it to my computer I checked for updates and it automatically downloaded the converter for the Mark II. It stinks to have to spend the money but it’s well worth it in the end!
