12 DIY Day’s of Christmas: Day 5

To celebrate the Christmas season, I’ve asked some of my closest(and most creative) friends to share with us their favorite holiday DIY projects.  I’m excited to introduce you to my friends as well as their great ideas!  They will be sharing recipes, decorating ideas, projects you can do with your kids and more. Stay tuned for the next few weeks, and hopefully we will all be inspired to be creative this season. Make sure to leave them a comment letting them know you loved their project!

Today’s project, I actually did myself.  I’ve seen these snowglobes on Pinterest several times, so I did a little research and found a great DIY on Martha Stewarts website.  I’m pretty sure I was just as excited to make these as Posey was.  Who doesn’t get excited working with Glitter!  I used jars that I already had at home, but you could get creative and use any size or shape  jar.

Homemade Snow Globes

Item’s you’ll need:
any type of jar
sand paper
glycerine(found this at Walmart by the Bandaids & Neosporin)
distilled water
glitter
tiny figurines
waterproof glue

1. Sand the inside of the lid of the jar.  This will help your figurine adhere.  I found my little trees and figurines in the Christmas section of Wal-Mart where they have all the tiny villages.  You could use anything that will not rust in water.  I chose a Tinkerbell ornament because I knew Po would love her.
2. Glue your figurine to the lid of the jar and let dry.  I used E-6000.
3.  Fill your jar almost to the top with distilled water.
4. Add about 3 pinches of glitter.  I chose white and silver so it would look like snow.
5. Add 3-4 drops of glycerine.  This helps the snow to fall slowly when you shake it up.
6. Screw the lid on the jar(figurine upside down).
7. Turn it upside down and you have a beautiful snow globe!

  9. I tried these snow globes but all the glitter just stayed at the top there was no falling snow. Is there something missing or anything or is there a special glitter?
